On September 27, 2026, a vehicle owned by the Secretary of Citizen Security of Cúcuta, Edwin Cardona, was involved in a traffic accident on Demetrio Mendoza Avenue, near the Prados del Este neighborhood. The incident resulted in injuries to three cyclists traveling in the area.
Following the accident, the mayor of Cúcuta, Jorge Acevedo, accepted Cardona's resignation and expressed solidarity with those affected. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the event.
